Last year the IRCTC had launched its e-commerce site in partnership with Yebhi.com. IRCTC’s online shopping site powered by Yebhi was hosted at shop.irctc.co.in and for sale of clothing, accessories, home decor, and electronics.
But the online shopping store of the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has closed because IRCTC shopping portal private partner Yebhi.com not extending its contract. A year ago Yebhi and IRCTC started the online shopping portal to sell the products under the IRCTC shopping brand name with a revenue sharing model.
IRCTC had plans to convert its online ticket booking traffic into customers for IRCTC shopping portal.
Yebhi partnered with IRCTC assuming that they will able to convert IRCTC's huge traffic into sales but according to Yebhi.com, it failed to convert the traffic to direct sales due to poor conversion rates.
But according to IRCTC, it was just a one year contract with Yebhi. IRCTC gets close to 1.2 million visits a day on its site, generating 180 million transactions every year, the largest for any travel or e-commerce website in India.
IRCTC and Yebhi partnership was based on a revenue-sharing model where Yebhi was handling all the inventory of IRCTC shopping portal and sharing 2 to 10 percent of revenue with IRCTC.
The key reason for the closure of IRCTC Shopping portal is the space meant for promoting Yebhi products given to other advertisers. The online shopping e-store of IRCTC is not functional any longer, though the contract expires at the end of August.
But IRCTC has not given up and planning to set up IRCTC shopping portal with multiple e-commerce players.
